Born in West Virginia, Ward Nichols is known for his extremely realistic rural scenes of the South. A self-taught artist, his mission has been to record a fading past. Examples of his work are in the collection of the Huntington Art Gallery ,The Asheville Art Museum and museums in England and Germany.
