H: 15″; W: 21″; D: 13″
A miniature walnut blanket chest from the Piedmont of Virginia with a lower drawer and interior till and additional storage drawer. A finely constructed box, with half blind dovetails on the front corners and full dovetails on the rear. The interior retains the original iron strap hinges, a till with the original lid, and a fully dovetailed drawer below. Below the main storage section is a full width drawer with a carved, molded edge, rosehead nails securing the bottom and original brass handles and escutcheon. The applied molded base is dovetailed, with ogee bracket feet and a central drop. Mellow early surface. Sturdily built miniature chest with the same proportions as its full sized cousins.
