Elizabeth (1799-1849) and Joshua (1806-1810) were the children of a Wesley Thornton Fry a prominent Madison County Virginia resident and are identified by name on the card stock. Taken in profile as was fashionable in the Federal period, John Wesley is depicted holding a bow and arrow. Elizabeth appears in a stylish hi-waisted Empire gown. The portraits were acquired in the mid-20th century from Charlottesville antiques dealer Bernard Caperton. Recorded by MESDA field researchers as files S-7547 & S-7548. The portraits are in excellent condition.
