One Drawer Stand
Yellow pine with remnants of old red wash
Southside Virginia, possibly Halifax County
1775-1800
23.5” x 26” x 27” tall

This stand is a group of approximately twelve related pieces designated by MESDA as “The Southside Virginia Heavy Inside Chamfer Table Group”. This small group is linked by the distinctive exaggerated chamfer of the legs and includes drop leaf tables as well as simple stands. The variety within the group suggests that they are probably from at least a couple of shops that were possibly related. (Three examples are in the Colonial Williamsburg Collection.) The stand is in in excellent condition with remnants of an old red wash.
