The Smith Brothers produced a remarkably fine series of large folio city views between 1848 and 1856. Among them were what American print historian John Reps describes as “two splendid lithographs of Philadelphia showing the city from different vantage points.” Page 206) “Large and imposing in size, splendidly drawn from vantage points carefully selected to show each city to best advantage, skillfully lithographed and printed by some of the best craftsmen of the industry, the Smith brothers’ views achieved a standard that equaled or surpassed the best work of its kind.” Reps, Page 207.
