Silver Water Pitcher with Eagle Handle
Circa 1820
Touch marks of Philadelphia silversmith Harvey Lewis (c. 1783-1835)
7.5 in tall
Harvey Lewis probably apprenticed with Joseph Lownes but by 1804 seems to have been working independently. He worked for several years in partnership with Joseph Smith but by 1811 had established himself in his own shop and wareroom on Philadelphia’s Second Street. This handsome pitcher reflects the popularity of the French Empire style and features a beautifully articulated eagle head handle.
