A rare and early convention banner with the state seal of Virginia and emblazoned with the state motto: “sic semper tyrannis” (thus always to tyrants). The Seal of the Commonwealth of Virginia shows Virtue, spear in hand, with her foot on the prostrate form of Tyranny. The Seal was planned by George Mason in 1776 and designed by George Wythe.
