C. 1850
8.5″ x 6.5″ x 8″ H.
This Virginia key basket survives in excellent condition with its original handle intact. It came from “Montezuma” a Nelson County, Virginia home built Circa 1790 by the William Cabell, Jr. The diamond stitching, handle form and design and overall structure substantiate its attribution to the Ricketts shop in Flint Hill, Virginia. Other examples from this group carry a label reading “R.H. Ricketts, Manufacturer, Saddles and Harnesses and Co., old saddles taken in exchange, Flint Hill, VA”,
